My song, “Princess,” (track #5 on my album, Isabel and The Whispers, up on Spotify) has the distinction of being the first song that I ever wrote. I was inspired to write it after reading about the story of Elisa Izquierdo, a child who had been beaten to death by her drug-addicted mother.
The story goes that Elisa attended a school that was visited by Prince Michael of Greece, and that she ran right into his arms when he visited her school in New York City. He was so moved by her that he offered her an educational scholarship and would keep in touch with the little girl before her death. I kept imagining her as a little princess when she first met the Prince of Greece, and so I indirectly allude to her as “Princess” in my song. (Check out “Princess” on Youtube here)
Long after writing this first song, I am really glad to know that listeners, especially listeners in ethnic communities, have been sharing this song. Child abuse is something that goes on behind closed doors, but sometimes people have a clue. If you see something, say something to a teacher! Here’s the number for the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline 1-800-422-4453. Join me in fighting child abuse by donating to Prevent Child Abuse America. Also feel free to share my child advocacy video on Youtube here.
